Alex Jønsson (born in Denmark in 1985) is a guitarist, composer and improvisor in a number of different bands, including the Nordic roots trio “Alex Jønsson 3” and the acclaimed post-pop group Foyn Trio.
In recent years, he has experimented with sound and improvisation in constellations challenging the common frameworks of a band. He has written compositions for nonet, composed a piece for guitar and dance and improvised with the renowned master chef Wassim Hallal.
This summer, Alex Jønsson graduated from the The Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus where he has studied the prestigeous, international master programme, Nomazz (Nordic Master of Jazz). In relation to his studies, he has lived in both Norway, Sweden and Finland.
Alex Jønsson’s career has gained speed the last couple of years. In 2012, he was nominated for a Danish Music Award for Danish Jazz Vocal Release of the Year with Foyn Trio and the album ”Joy Visible”. He has toured in the Nordic countries and Germany and played at several music festivals, including Molde Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Spot Festival. In 2013, he has already been involved as a composer or a sideman in several releases, for instance, the debut album with Alex Jønsson 3.
Alex Jønsson currently resides in Gothenburg, Sweden. He is regarded as one of the leading, young guitarist emerging from the proud jazz tradition of Aarhus, which has fostered prominent musicians like Uffe Steen, Jakob Bro and Søren Dahl.
