Rob Haight

Saxophonist Rob Haight attended the Interlochen Academy of Arts and completed his Bachelor of Music at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University under the direction of Rob Parton. In 2013 Haight completed an Artist Diploma at The Juilliard School. He has studied saxophone, improvisation, and composition with Steve Wilson, Ron Blake, Trent Kynaston, Rick Holland, Jerry DiMuzio, David Bloom, Scott Mason, Mike Smith, Tom Garling, Bill Sears, and Mark Colby. Before turning to the saxophone, Rob studied clarinet with Richard Hawkins. His early music teachers in Southwest Michigan, Dawn Garrett and Joe Lekan cultivated his love of music and solidified the foundation for his studies.

Mr. Haight has performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra with Patti Austin, Doc Severinsen, and Marvin Hamlisch. While living in Chicago Rob performed frequently with Jeff Lindberg's Chicago Jazz Orchestra and was able to play with players steeped in big band tradition such as Eric Schneider, John Wojciechowski, Danny Barber, Pharez Whitted, Art Davis, Jerry DiMuzio, Scott Burns and Tom Garling, George Fludas, Dennis Carroll, and Dan Trudell. Some of the CJO headlining artists that Rob was able to perform with include Frieda Lee, Anne Hampton Calloway, Chuchito Valdes, and Dee Alexander.

Haight has given concerts with Umphreys McGee, Spare Parts, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, with Charles Heath with Dana Hall and Ernie Adams, Chicago Jazz Festival with Pfiffner's Marco Polo; with big bands with Michael Feinstein and John Fedchock, as well as pop concerts with the Elgin Symphony. Rob was fortunate enough to perform many times at the Green Mill with the Sabertooth Organ Quartet, a group consisting of Cameron Pfiffner, Pat Mallinger, Pete Benson and Ted Sirota; Charles Heath Quartet with Junius Paul and Robert Irving III; the Velvet Lounge house band with Isaiah Spencer and Scott Hesse; Trampelman with Sam Trapchak, Broc Hempel and Christian Coleman; and the Ian Torres Big Band that featured many rising stars including Greg Ward, Caroline Davis, Rich Moore, Doug Stone, Rob Clearfield, and Marquis Hill.

Rob is on a total of 12 albums including three as a leader: Portal, which is an album co-lead with guitarist Nicolás Vera is the most recent album on the Discos Pendiente label and features Rodrigo Espinoza and Carlos Cortes. Crumbling Moment (featuring Ron Blake, Dan Cray, Adam Coté and Mark Ferber) was recorded in New York in 2016 and is only available on Bandcamp, as is Emerge, which is Rob’s debut album recorded in Chicago in 2012 with Dan Trudell, Charlie Kirchen, Casey Nielsen and Andrew Green.
