Fosforo Sequera

Fósforo Sequera's versatility as a percussionist has allowed him to assimilate musical genres such as jazz, pop, rock, blues and world music in an original, colorful and passionate way. He was born in Valencia and started playing music during his adolescence, at that time he faced the drums with the intuition and anxiety of exploration of any good beginner, his ear was his best teacher. His curiosity expanded to other percussion instruments, being the conga, timbal, bongo, djembe and cajon the instruments that would complete his path and forge an original and sensitive style, highly influenced by musicians such as Nene Quintero, Jerry Gonzalez, Marlon Simon, Nana Vasconcelos and Steve Berrios, among others. His musical development led him to make music with personalities of the musical world such as Gerardo Rosales, Marlon Simon, Leonardo Lozano, Franco Nasi, Carmelo Medina, Banda Sinfónica 24 de Junio, Jorge Palomo, Luis Gallo, Malicia Rock Band, Tony Velázquez, UC Jazz, Maria Elena Millán, Juan Cristóbal Moreno, Yudith Rodríguez, Ocho Son Suficiente, Omar Lopez, CJ3, Borburata Jazz, Big Montal Band, Kactus, Trabala'o, Soto Blues Band, Omar Herrera, Marianne Mali, Valencia en Ensamble, Henry Arias Inca, Wolfgang Vom Hofe, Raúl Cragg, Orquesta de Cámara de la Universidad de Carabobo, Sonata Disonante, among others.

In addition, Fósforo Sequera has participated in important events in Venezuela such as the International Jazz Festival of Barquisimeto 2014, International Jazz Festival of Naguanagua 2008 and 2016, the III, IV, X. During his stay in Germany he performed in prestigious venues such as Jazzkeller, Die Fabrik, Historischer Museum in Frankfurt Am Main, as well as in various events in cities such as Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, Bad Homburg and Hanau, among others. On the other hand, Fósforo Sequera has worked as a drum teacher at the Arturo Michelena University (2015) and as director of the Herz Jazz group, formed by students of the University of Carabobo (2014-2016). He has also received awards for his artistic career such as the Button of Honor of the Legislative Council of the State of Carabobo (2011) and the Button of Honor of the University of Carabobo (2016), as well as recognition from UNESCO for his work in favor of the International Jazz Day. 

He has also developed a radio career since 1997, always with emphasis on the production and conduction of musical programs such as "Encendiendo la noche" (1997-2001) on Lago 91.5 FM, "Entra en clave" (2001 - 2003) on Universitaria 104.5 FM, "Tiempo y espacio" (2004 - 2005) on Stereo Tip 100.9 FM and "La Caja del Fósforo" (2006 - present), his most recent radio production that is transmitted through Onda 100.9 FM La Superestación from Valencia, Venezuela. Internationally, he has been producer and host of the podcast "Café Latino" transmitted from Bogotá, Colombia through the web radio El Café del Mundo, as well as the podcast "Rumbo a la Rumba" transmitted by the web radio station NuestraSalsa.com, also from Bogotá, Colombia. He has also been an article writer for the Sunday magazine "Letra Inversa" (2005-2006) of the Notitarde newspaper of Valencia, Venezuela. He has collaborated with texts for the blog-magazine "Los Hermanos Chang" as well as for other publications on the web. 

Currently, Fósforo Sequera works independently as a drummer and percussionist in front of his jazz quartet, always at the service of music and having Jazz as his artistic epicenter. Additionally, he dedicates a good part of his time to teaching music, drums and percussion at Colegio Sagrado Corazón (Valencia, Venezuela). On the other hand, he has led a cultural movement in the city of Valencia, Venezuela to promote jazz through the promotion and dissemination of concerts, clinics and conferences where the importance of jazz and percussion is highlighted.
