Noa Lur

"An exuberant and playful voice; femenine, full of talent, with a huge register, great dramatic ability, and with a charming and excellent-tuned playfulness. A truly captivating voice" That's how the prestigious Spanish jazz magazine "Cuadernos de jazz" defined Noa Lur a young singer from Bilbao who got to the finals of the international Youth Jazz Festival "Nomme Jazz" from Estonia with her outstanding debut, "Badakit". This success has led her to introduce her project at major european jazz clubs such as the Nardis Jazz Club in Istanbul where she had been a leading artist in the celebration of International Jazz Day in 2014. In July of the same year, Noa performed with great success as a supporting artist for the 10 times Grammy Award winner Bobby McFerrin in the first edition of Madgarden Festival.

Accompanied by three of the most notorious jazz pianists of the Spanish and Cuban scene - Pepe Rivero, Moisés Sánchez and Luis Guerra- Noa Lur rearranged great jazz standards, flirted with Mexican bolero and signed the main piece that gives name to her debut album: " “Badakit " , a song with lyrics in basque (traditional language of her hometown, in the Basque Country) and the evocative collaboration of txalaparta players Oreka TX . A sweeping work, recorded live in 2013 in studio. Piano along vocals in an old fashion depicting a true picture of rare emotional intensity that met the high expectations of national and international jazz scenes.

Consciously disregarding all superfluous ornament through a "tour de force" of sincerity, Noa Lur-in the words of Pepe Rivero- "is able to move from simplicity to virtuosity with astonishing ease... she is an absolute discovery." But Noa also plays "Badakit" in her concerts with her quartet formed by Pepe Rivero, Reinier Elizarde “El Negrón” and Michael Olivera... also in touring shows at national and international festivals and clubs (Jazzablanca Jazz Festival –Casablanca-, MadGarden Jazz Festival –Madrid- Bogui Jazz, Bilbaína Jazz Club – Distrito Jazz, Nardis Jazz Club – Istanbul-, Nomme Jazz – Estonia-, Madrid Jazz Festival, Ellas Crean Festival...)

Currently, Noa is also the main vocalist of the Walter Sax Big Band, directed by Walter Geromet and she has also colaborated with Bob Sands Big Band in the last edition of Madrid Jazz Festival. Noa Lur is part of the renown Black Light Gospel Choir and many other projects and shares the stage with other national and international musicians like Sibel Kose, Borja Barrueta, Moisés Sánchez, Bob Sands, Onder Focan, Kursad Deniz, Ander García, Federico Lechner, Toño Miguel, Abdón Alcaraz...

Noa Lur: badakit

Read "badakit" reviewed by Mehdi El Mouden

Noa Lur is a force of nature. From Bilbao, the Spanish singer/song writer is a dreamy feminine soul that celebrates the majesty of jazz through a proud demeanor and a dominating voice. With such character Lur's phrases are suave, feathery and strong. In her debut album badakit, she makes her vocal talent stand out through original compositions and revisited classics played mainly on piano. Except “Throw It Away," where bass and saxophone are audible, and “Bobira" a dual ...
