Tico Pierhagen & Aguabajo

Tico Pierhagen, born in 1975 at Pasto, Colombia. was adopted by a Dutch family at the age of 1,5 years old. When he was 8 he started taking piano lessons and it soon became clear that he was very much attracted to all kinds of jazz. After having finished grammar school he went to college in Utrecht and followed an education in composition and music technology. Later he graduated at the university of Portsmouth (European Media Master of Arts). Back in The Netherlands he decided to visit the Rotterdam Conservatory to study the piano for four more years . In 2008 he returned to his native country Colombia for the first time. He not only met his biological family, but also discovered South American music. He was so much fascinated by the classical rhythms of this continent that from that time they have always been a regular feature of his compositions . Rich European melodies with an unmistakably Latin rhythm characterize Tico Pierhagen’s compositions.
