Przemyslaw Straczek

Przemysław Strączek, born in 1976, is considered one of the most talented Polish guitarists by jazz critics. He became a jazz guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, and an educationalist. In 2002, Strączek completed his music education at the University of Silesia, and received a degree from the Jazz Institute at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. In 2011 he was one of the seven finalists (the only European to qualify) to the 3rd Thailand International Jazz Conference Solo Competition organized by the University of Salaya in Bangkok. He is also a laureate of the Marek Bliziński Jazz Guitarist Competition in Warsaw, which he won twice in 2001 and 2003, and the 2005 All-Poland Competition for Guitar Improvisation in Kielce. From 1998 to 2006 he led his first band Tres Jazz, with which in 2004 he recorded the album The Shape of Melody”. Since 2006 he has become a leader in his own various musical projects. Up to now he has released three more albums under his own name: “Earthly Room” (2007), “Light & Shadow” (2010) and “Evans” (2012), dedicated to a great jazz pianist....

Two guitarists undertook the difficult task of interpreting maestro’s work. They raised the bar incredibly high and simultaneously decided on an ascetic form of a guitar duo. To render an intimate language of Evans into a guitar language seems to be a complicated task to perform, but so is the very conception of a duo. However, a private formula, the lightness with which young artists handled the works of a classic, as well as peculiar instrumentation contributed a little to freeing Evans from a magic spell: they were able to preserve a melancholy mood, and simultaneously infused plenty of freshness and youthful heart into this music …

They splendidly complement each other, creating a harmonizing duo: Strączek, playing gently and softly, sets up a base for his overseas friend’s dynamic and confident play. The musicians do play together, listen to each other attentively and respond instantly.
