Scot Hornick

Bassist/Educator Scot Hornick has been keeping himself busy working in a wide variety of projects and settings. As a performer he has covered as many styles as possible and has performed on over 40 recordings acting as a producer, musical director and bassist. He has also appeared on numerous tv and radio jingles, independent film soundtracks and television. His range of music covered; orchestra performances and recordings, traditional jazz, big band, modern jazz, free improvisation, blues, soul, americana, country, rock, latin and heavy metal. He has appeared on multiple Blues Music Award nominated records and Independent Jazz Recognized records.

As an Educator, Scot has kept an active private studio for over 20 years. His students have gone on to attend prestigious music programs across North America and onto major performance and recording careers. Currently entering his 8th year as an Applied Music teacher at Mercer County Community College, he also began teaching Music Theory II at the school as well. He has also taught ensembles at New York University and bass instruction at Northampton Community College.

As a student of music, Scot still continues to further his education by pursuing Traditional Bass studies with Joe Bongiorno and theory/improvisation studies with various teachers furthering the studies of Charlie Banacos (whom he studied with for 6 years prior to his passing).

Scot earned his Masters at NYU where he was fortunate to study and perform with such greats as: Kenny Werner, Chris Potter, Gil Goldstein, Dafnis Prieto, George Garzone, Ralph Alessi, Brian Lynch, Mike Richmond, Jim McNeely, Lenny Pickett, and John Scofield- including performances at the Blue Note with the Scofield Sextet Ensemble playing the music of John Scofield. Scot recorded a CD Produced and Written by Jazz Legend Teo Macero, with performances at Birdland and the Blue Note as well as IAJE.

Scot completed his Bachelor of Music in 98 at Berklee College of Music where he was guided by some great instructors including Whit Browne, Bruce Gertz, Rich Appleman and many others. Outside of school Scot has performed at Master Classes led by Cecil Taylor, Christian McBride, the Heath Brothers and Victor Wooten. Scot has also studied with Bassists Ray Brown, Scott Colley and Anthony Cox.

Currently you can see and hear Scot performing with the Mike MacAllister Trio, The Semi-Finalists, Dan DeChellis Trio, Keith Franklin Quartet, Dave Gross Band, Dennis Gruenling and Jump Time, Gina Fox Band, Gina Sicilia Band, numerous community orchestras and theaters and as a first call fill in for groups around the northeast.
