She began to sing several years before meeting Bill Gerhardt and at his urging, started working professionally. She has continued to study with the great Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton in New York City. Her knack for choosing material that is perfectly suited to her is uncanny. Sharon provides a weekly jazz vocal workshop at the Asheville Music School SE 126 College St., where students are explore jazz singing and practice improvisation. While focusing on the many aspects of jazz language they are encouraged to take risks while performing in a comfortable supportive environment. She helps singers who are just beginning as well as seasoned singers to uncover their unique voice and develop their own style and delivery of tune. A life long student herself she invites other vocal teachers and jazz musicians to work with the group to allow for a beautiful and broad experience of learning jazz music. She also works individually with singers coaching them on the practice of vocalizing, selecting repertoire, unique delivery and aspects of performance. Since 2001, Sharon has studied privately with Jay Clayton, Sheila Jordan, Bill Gerhardt, Mike Holstein. She also attended Jamey Abersold camp , Sheila Jordan Retreats, Workshops by Kendra Shank and Rhiananon . Master classes by Karrin Allyson, Tierny Sutton, Annie Sellick, Lisa Sokolov . Available to teach in Asheville, NC and Greenville, SC area.
