Sofi Hellborg

She has played with musicians like Mory Kante, Etienne Mbappe and Tony Allen. She has released 8 CD's with her own compositions and arrangements. She has lived and worked in London and Paris for 16 years, and performed in many countries worldwide. In 1999 she moved back home to Sweden again, and built up a new band there. Sofi Hellborg is a unique musician in many ways. And her music, mixing afro, funk and jazz is sofisticated and smart, at the same time as it will fill every dancefloor, in the cool north as well as down south. She has played important festivals such as Tanjazz (Marocco) and Pori Jazz (Finland). Her band consists of top-of-the-line musicians from the jazz and world music circuit. Her 8th CD "Sun & Rain" is released on the Ajabu label. Produced by Sofi she has in this recording invited Obi C Agor, a singer from nigeria/england for 2 songs and on the song Mali, she has collaborated with the percussionist Salieu Dibba who sings a beautiful song for peace. This record showes how well together the band sounds right now.

Sofi Release a new cd with the new band Hellskotta in autumn 2014. The music is original compositions written for the group's sound which loops and samples complements the organic and with roots from jazz, African, ethnic and hip hop music.

A review from latest “Sun & Rain”

With a number of albums behind, Sofi Hellborg almost become veterans in its compartment. On the new album, one is struck by the well attunes band and the flow in the music. The interaction is sublime and syncopations so well-oiled that it's easy to miss the details of the whole. A great dose of jazz can be heard on the new album, mainly of soloists but also a part of the horn arrangements.

There are currently no remarks, the disc is full of sunny music of varying tempoes and intensity. So if you have not become acquainted with Sofi before, Sun & Rain is a great introduction.
