Sound Advice Jazz Quartet

The Sound Advice Jazz Adventure plays fresh contemporary jazz for a fiercely loyal, fast growing audience at home in Honolulu and around the world.

Strongly influenced by the way jazz greats invariably bring something new to their performances, the members of Sound Advice always comes across as comfortable and familiar, yet also unmistakably unique.

"When we put this ensemble together, the idea of a jazz adventure was at the forefront," says Sound Advice composer and pianist Dan Freedman. "Sure, the songs we play are everyone's favorites all the way from the standards of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie to new creations of Michael Bublé and Hiromi. But what's different is that we re-invent them each time we play, and that's crucial to the jazz experience our audiences crave."

"We've ended up playing to a lot of people who didn't even know they were jazz fans," says Sound Advice trumpeter Marcell Porter. "What's different about Sound Advice is that we all put a lot of work into being very sensitive to the needs of the audience and the host venue, so the performance seems a lot more interactive. This isn't just an in crowd band, although we get a lot of comments from other musicians."

At Sound Advice, we'd love the opportunity to earn your respect and to provide you with some musical entertainment that will put a smile on your face. If you like watching live music being created in front of your eyes and ears, please come on out and give us a try!

Comments:

"This is one of those bands where you sit there on the edge of your seat, and shivers run up and down your spine."

"Sound Advice is one of Hawaii's hottest up-and-coming groups. With Marcell's ear for phrasing and Dan's ability for rich and deep harmonies, Sound Advice creates a sound that involves the listener on a level you won't experience in many groups today. The dialog is amazing!" -Ike

"Sure, they can play, but these cats know the value of musical space too - pretty rare these days."

"My boyfriend was blown away, not just by the music, but by the way the band interacted with the audience."

Playing a mix of strong originals and awesome interpretations of Bebop, Fusion, and Funk favorites, Sound Advice just makes life seem better!
