Stephan Kammerer

Born and raised in Denmark, saxophonist Stephan Kammerer has made his career in the states. A scholarship to Berklee College of Music brought him to Boston, MA in 1993. After graduating with honors in 1997, he stayed in Boston performing with local bands. In 2001 after moving to New York City he toured with Maynard Ferguson. Stephan has performed with David “Fathead” Newman, John Hendrix, Benny Green, Antonio Sanchez, Lionel Loueke, Ingrid Jensen, Jon Cowherd and others. Recently he toured with the Artie Shaw Orchestra.

Danish bassist Jens Jefsen returns with another bass-centric album which is definitely not “solo bass," a sequel to A Secret Sigh (Gateway Music, 2016). Like the previous album the music emphasizes melody--which Jefsen finds in standards, modern pop songs and his originals--and varied, colorful arrangements. Jefsen's “Esto Es Lo Mio" opens the set with a sprightly pizzicato double bass melody (accompanied by overdubbed bass and foot stomping). Stephan offers online lessons to students all over the world. Stephan teaches in a systematic manner, starting from my level of competence. He has been quick to identify and correct problem areas with my playing. During this short time, I have improved in my playing as well as developed a better understanding and knowledge in the many aspects of jazz. The lessons through which he imparts his knowledge and methods are conducted through Skype. Materials relating to the lessons are also delivered through the internet during lessons. In my mind, we have been able to overcome the physical constraints of distance using this manner of communication and it is as good as face to face lessons
