Steve Tyrell

Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell is truly a renaissance man. In his 4 decades in the music business he has achieved great success as an artist, producer, songwriter, music supervisor and performer. He is a Grammy winning producer and a two time Emmy nominee. His productions have won numerous Grammys and have been nominated for Academy and Golden Globe Awards as well.

With his breakthrough performances in “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride II,” Steve Tyrell reinvented and re-popularized classic pop standards for a modern audience. With the grit and soul of a lifetime producing hits for artists ranging from Linda Rondstadt & Diana Ross to 2005’s Grammy-winner Rod Stewart (“Stardust…Vol. 3”), Steve himself has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate following all over the world. The songs he has sung in big hit movies “The Way You Look Tonight,” “I’ve Got A Crush On You,” and “The Simple Life,” have launched thousands of weddings and millions of romances. He’s held top positions at Standards, Swing, and Big Band outlets with a devoted following at key Adult Contemporary Radio.

With sold out shows across America, plus international raves from Moscow, London, Germany, Spain and Tokyo, his following increases year after year. Steve recently made his first appearance with the famed Boston Pops and at the request of the Sinatra family, Steve was the featured performer at the Hollywood Bowl season opening concert at which Frank Sinatra was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame. It was a signature event and a major success. With the encouragement of music legend Quincy Jones and the Sinatra family, plans were hatched for an album of Frank’s material. This is one of the few times the Sinatra family has reached into the vault of original Sinatra arrangements to share with another artist. With some of the greatest musicians in the world playing some of the greatest songs of all time on this recording, “Songs of Sinatra” is an album that audiences will want to hear again and again and again.

His work in the studio has included collaborations with such diverse and legendary artists as Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Ray Charles, Aaron Neville, Dionne Warwick, LL Cool J, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chris Botti, Dave Koz, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Burt Bacharach, Bette Midler and Stevie Wonder just to name a few.

As an artist, all 5 of his American Standards albums have achieved top 5 status on Billboard’s Jazz charts and his first album “A New Standard” was amongst the best selling jazz albums for over 5 years.

If you were paying attention, you may wonder who sang “The Way You Look Tonight" on the soundtrack to Steve Martin’s Father Of The Bride and its sequel.

By now, the secret is out. Steve Tyrell has released three albums in the last four years and we now hear him singing on television and radio almost as often as we’d like. For a guy who started out in the late 1960s at the tender age of sixteen, he ...

Steve Tyrell: This Time Of The Year

Read "This Time Of The Year" reviewed by Jim Santella

It's the time of year for floor-length, sequined gowns, colorful neckties, spiked punchbowls, endless dancing, and repeated trips to the refreshment bar. Singer Steve Tyrell wants to make sure everyone has a good time. For his party, he's invited a few special guests we can certainly appreciate. Tyrell's loose vocal interpretations set everyone at ease. His recording, while running under 40 minutes, serves as the ultimate holiday celebration. Bringing in Clark Terry's mumbles and pleasant trumpet interludes was a stroke ...

Steve Tyrell: Standard Time

Read "Standard Time" reviewed by Dave Nathan

Even though this is just his second album, Steve Tyrell is no beginner to the music business. He has been a successful producer and songwriter composing hits such as “How Do You Talk to an Angel" and “Hold On". Singing with a slightly raspy tone, sort of a combination of Ray Charles and Hoagy Carmichael, Tyrell's versions of this set of classic standards are pleasant enough, but certainly not compelling. It isn't because the album producers haven't tried. They rounded ...

Steve Tyrell: Standard Time

Read "Standard Time" reviewed by Jim Santella

Recalling the years when Basie and Ellington reigned, Steve Tyrell sings standards alongside big band arrangements, strings, and in small ensemble format. His interpretation of these familiar standards certainly brings back the memories. Tyrell's singing voice, gritty and expressive, somewhat resembles the timeless delivery of Tony Bennett. Preferring to walk the straight and narrow by singing these standards as written, Tyrell relies on his accompaniment for improvisation. It's an all-star group, and their participation on this project pays dividends. Tyrell's ...
