The Clarinet Trio: Transformations and Further Passages

Read "Transformations and Further Passages" reviewed by John Eyles

A clarinet trio is a chamber trio comprising a clarinet, a bowed string instrument such as a violin, viola or cello, and a piano; the phrase can also refer to a composition written for such a trio. However, away from such matters, The Clarinet Trio is the name of a three-clarinet group which first recorded together on October 1st 1998, in Berlin, the resulting album, Oct. 1, '98, having been released on the Leo Lab label in 1999. Double Trio De Clarinettes: Itineraire Bis

Read "Itineraire Bis" reviewed by Vic Albani

Double Trio De Clarinettes: Itineraire Bis

Read "Itineraire Bis" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

On these 19 brief pieces they move through a world of clarinet approaches - indeed, often they do so in the course of one piece.

To take just one example, “Klezmer . . . Flower . . . Tag . . .," ...

The Clarinet Trio: Oct. 1, '98

Read "Oct. 1, '98" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

The Clarinet Trio is: Jurgen Kupke (clarinet), Gebhard Ullmann (bass clarinet) and Theo Nabicht (bass clarinet). Oct. 1, ‘98 was recorded live in an old chamber-music hall in Berlin and features 19 tracks in total which average between 2-4 minutes in length.

Charming, clamorous, playful and for the most part, thoroughly entertaining, this Clarinet Trio succeeds with fresh ideas, a multifaceted approach and impeccable execution. Gebhard Ullmann’s “Heaven No. 27” features an interesting blend of harmony, as the choruses are ...
