Tom Weeklund

Background: A native of Minneapolis, MN, I studied extensively and taught with Herbert J. Wigley for over 30 years. Herb Wigley and I were some of the first to teach jazz improvisation for the University of Minnesota at Mac Phail Center. I was fortunate enough to have been coached on organ with the great jazz organist Jimmy Smith back in the 70's. I have been a professional musician and teacher since 1964. I have been the accompanist at my church for the past 30+ years, a composer, a recording artist with 4 CDs and play professionally in the Twin Cities area. Student Successes: Former students have gone on to be teachers, business owners, performers, and recording artists, working with such stars as Olivia Newton-John and Prince. I have had two different students go on to play with Prince over the years. A former student was a national finalist in the Yamaha Electone Festival in 1986 and 1987 . In 1987, he was the National winner and went on to Tokyo where he was the bronze medal winner in the International Festival. He has since become a free lance movie and TV score writer with several successful projects to his credit. Strengths: My biggest strength is that I am out there performing, accompanying, teaching, composing, and doing things that I am able to pass on to my students. I am living the practical practice of music every day in my personal and professional life. This enhances my ability to be a better teacher and to pass on the true art of music.

. Other Info: Music Ministry Plus is another music related business that I am involved with. My partner, Mary Pat Nydahl, and I provide music for wedding ceremonies, funerals, receptions and private parties. You can view, listen to and purchase my CDs at our website.
