Valerie MIZE

Earthy yet educated; simple yet soulful; funky and fun; Valerie MIZE’s music is immediately appealing to the eclectic in everyone. With influences ranging from Hometown to Motown, this Oklahoma born, NYC and Nashville based songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist rubs some rootsy Red Dirt on her classical upbringing.

After earning her degree in Music (on scholarship with a dual emphasis in Jazz and Classical Voice), MIZE moved to New York City to build a band and further her musical endeavors.  Backed by the rock solid rhythm section of drummer Tomo Kanno and bassist Antar Goodwin (Patty Smyth, Lauryn Hill), Mize recently teamed up with cellist Ward Williams (Vienna Teng, Brandi Carlile), multi-instrumentalist Greg Mayo, and producer/engineer Robert L. Smith (U2, Imogen Heap, Lady Gaga) at Defy Recordings to record her debut EP “Auspices”. MIZE recently packed up her keyboard and guitars to move to Music City (Nashville) to write with some of the industry's top hit makers, and began pre-production work for her next album, to be released in 2013.

"It was our first time hearing her sing lead and I knew it wouldn’t be our last. I didn’t know our next one would be this close, but I’m glad it was. Valerie opened the show with a bang! I Feel the Earth Move is a rich, earthy song. Valerie’s rich, earthy voice is perfectly suited for it."
