Born in Durham, North Carolina in 1983, Will Goble followed an unusual path prior to becoming an upright bassist and jazz musician…
At the age of eleven, Will received his first electric bass as a gift, and he soon found himself performing in local clubs, bars, and other venues with rock and roll bands made up of his peers. This continued until his junior year of high school, when the arrival of jazz educator Andrew Sioberg to Durham School of the Arts piqued Will’s interest. Under Sioberg’s direction, Will took up the acoustic bass, and began his lifelong study of jazz.
Following high school graduation, Will received a music scholarship to Florida State University, where he studied with bassist Rodney Jordan, as well as the renowned pianist Marcus Roberts. This relationship with Roberts proved especially important during Will’s formative years, as Marcus included him in a number of performances and educational workshops. In April of 2006, Marcus featured Will as a member of his quartet for a performance at Hampton University.
