Adelaide Ruble is a native Virginian and studied music at Shenandoah Conservatory of Music. She grew up in a jazz family.
My father played trumpet in the Louis Armstrong style and jammed with Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. As a young girl, I was exposed to great jazz - Fats Waller, Dave Brubeck, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson ... Since I studied piano, jazz piano seemed to speak to me and my musical style sprouted when I listened to Sergio Mendez and Brasil '66. Lanie Hall really inspired me and eventually, I began to listen to other great singers like Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughan, Ella, Sammy Davis. Sammy could lead horn sections with his vocal certainty and rhythmic push.
