Alan Broome

Alan Broome is the wild, expressive, fiery red-headed, gravel-voiced bassist of the Dukes of Dixieland. Raised in Kenner, LA, Alan started playing electric bass at age 11. He picked up tuba in high school at age 14 and picked up double bass at age 16. He attended Loyola University of New Orleans in 1998 majoring in Music Education. While going to school, Alan learned to play to traditional jazz in the Joe Simon Jazz Band. He played in that group for 4 years, and then moved to Las Vegas to teach middle school and high school orchestra.

While in Las Vegas, Alan learned to play Italian traditional music at the Venetian Casino. He played there four years. He also played in The Las Vegas Big Band, and The Real Deal. While teaching Alan earned a masters degree in music education at Northern Arizona University. He also earned his masters degree in jazz studies at University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

Alan moved back to New Orleans in summer of 2009 to play music full time, serving as the house bassist at the Le Petite Theatre, and appearing with the trio the Joe Kennedy Project.

He has played with Marlon Jordan, Charmaine Neville, Joe Kennedy, Coco Robicheaux, Joe Simon Jazz Band, and the John Mahoney Big Band before joining The DUKES of Dixieland in August 2010. Source: Brian Ross
