Album Description

Each suite travels through a range of moods, with producer Sam Hobbs (Matthew Bourne, Bonobo, Roller Trio, Dave Stapleton) subtly expanding the sonic palette of the classic tenor/guitar quartet, conjuring textures inspired in equal measure by pastoral British art-rock of the 1970s and the contemporary New York jazz scene. The spirit of Paul Motian s Electric Bebop Band and Larks Tongues in Aspic-era King Crimson inhabit the music in places; gritty improvising in the jazz tradition remains centre stage at all times. About the artist: Amidst widespread acclaim for the Jamil Sheriff Big Band album Ichthyology (released on GLP in summer 2013), reviewers consistently identified guitarist Jamie Taylor as one of the record's stand-out performers. Now GLP presents the hotly-anticipated debut release from Taylor's 'Outside Line' quartet - a bold and imaginative disc containing two brand new suites of original composition by the leader. The group is completed by the award-winning young saxophonist Matt Anderson and a rhythm section comprising two of the UK's finest jazz musicians, bassist Garry Jackson and drummer Dave Walsh.
