Alex Blaine
Alex Blaine is a New Orleans based tenor saxophonist, though he also plays piano, keys, and organ. Born and raised in New Jersey, a stone’s throw from New York City, he began saxophone at age 7 and was marching in parades with high school bands by age 10. Being the son of a professional saxophonist and music teacher, Alex was raised with music as a major part of his life. Blaine recently contributed to an album credited with a 2015 Grammy nomination in the Best Blues Album category (Bobby Rush’s “Decisions”) along with many other fantastic players. He has worked with prominent individuals such as Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Rockin’ Dopsie Jr., Bruce “Sunpie” Barnes (known for work with Paul Simon), Jason Ricci, Bobby Rush, Billy Branch, Deacon John, John Lisi, Serabee, The Treme Brass Band, Russel Batieste Jr., as well as other New Orleans staples such as Glen David Andrews and James Andrews (brothers of the famous Trombone Shorty), Irvin Mayfield, and more.
