Ana Barreiro

Drummer, composer and educator Ana Barreiro is an active musician based in Los Angeles-CA with deep roots in Brazilian music and Jazz. Originally from Poços de Caldas, a town located in the Southeast region of Brazil, with a Bachelors degree in Drum Performance from Berklee College of Music and a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California; the drummer has had the opportunity to learn from important music educators in Brazil and in the US such as Peter Erskine, Lilian Carmona, Terri Lyne Carrington, Lupa Santiago, Carlos Ezequiel, Neal Smith.

Barreiro co-leads the group “AmyAna” with pianist Amy K Bormet. Their debut self-titled album was released in 2018 with compositions by both musicians leading “AmyAna” to become a finalist at the DCJazzPrix in 2019 in Washington DC. The quintet was invited to perform in NYC for "The Next Faces of Jazz" series at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in 2021.

Currently Barreiro is part of the Faculty at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood teaching at the Institution’s Bachelor’s program; she is also on the Faculty at the Stanford Jazz Camp as a drum instructor and Jazz Camp West in California. Other workshops include: Washington Women in Jazz Festival in Washington DC; featured artist and clinician at Zildjian DAY 2018 in Sao Paulo; "Third RSL Asia Pacific Youth Contemporary Music Grand Prix" in Thailand as a lecturer and a juror.
