Andrew Vogt
Andrew Vogt is an accomplished musician and composer from Chicago who, in addition to writing, producing and performing his own original music, collaborates and performs regularly with singers and songwriters from all genres of music. He has written and arranged over 200 pieces of music and has recorded over 300 songs (60 albums) as a performer.
Awarded the Luminarts' 2020 "People's Choice" award for Solo Jazz performance at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago, he has also been found recently collaborating in the writing and arranging of music for the ATLYS string quartet. Since 2018, Vogt and ATLYS have released numerous singles including wildly successful covers of “A Day in the Life” and “Imagine.” Through this partnership, he also had the opportunity to arrange the music of hit-machine songwriter Tom Kelly (Cyndi Lauper, Phil Collins, Madonna, The Pretenders, The Bangles) for a performance with Kelly in Lafayette, Indiana.
In winter of 2020, Vogt’s commercial music company 3MIX had featured placements on the full-length Hallmark Christmas movie “The Christmas Doctor.” The same year he also released the original music EPs “Hammerspace” and “Like a River,” the predecessors of the full length album “Awakening.”
In summer of 2021, Vogt worked again with ATLYS and electronic artist Seven Lions to arrange hybrid string quartet covers for sold out performances at Red Rocks and The Gorge, which resulted in a highly successful EDM/classical crossover full length album available now on Ophelia Records.
On the performing side of music, Vogt has played with many world renowned jazz artists including Ernie Watts (Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Pat Metheny), Donny McCaslin (David Bowie), Nate Watts (Stevie Wonder), Isaiah Sharkey (John Mayer, D’Angelo) and Woody Goss (Vulfpeck). He is featured on over 24 hours worth of music (over 35 albums) on Spotify from different collaborations and side projects.
Vogt's first record dates back to 2014, when he released his first album as producer and primary composer under the group "The Humble Organisms", followed in 2016 by his debut EP as a bandleader, "For Free", and again by the album "The AV Club", released the following year. In 2021, he released “Oihana” with musical partners B Forrest and Patrik Ahlberg which quickly ran up the bluegrass charts and playlists.
Through mutual friend and musical companion B Forrest, Andrew was introduced to Woody Goss (of Vulfpeck) and since they have worked together on all of Woody’s solo projects, including "Strange Satisfaction” by Woody & Jeremy (2020), "Anyway" by May Erlewine and the Woody Goss Band (2020), “Gravy in My Coffee” by Woody & Jeremy (2021) and “Rainbow Beach” (2021) and “High Loon!” (2023) by Woody Goss.

Bonzo Squad: Pachyderm
by Kyle Simpler
The Chicago-based quartet Bonzo Squad describes their music as comfort in chaos." While this description might give an impression of free-form experimentation, it is not the case. The chaos aspect of their sound comes from a unique mixture of structure and improvisation, and for these guys, the comfort definitely outweighs the chaos. With Pachyderm, the group offers a perfect example of this description put into practice. Comfort implies an association with a memory, as is the case with ...

Solace. Listening to classic 1960s soul-jazz as an escape from today's stresses united the musicians who founded the Chicago Soul Jazz Collective. Many of us know of that comfort, the one carried by a cursory view of nostalgia. But don't look too close. Tenor saxophonist John Fournier and trumpet player Marques Carroll built a band on this foundation, exploring the canon. Their sophomore effort is an album of urban tinder and smoke signals, recorded on vintage equipment. The final product ...

For a self-produced album, this really is first class fusion. Bassist Andrew Vogt and his band would give Snarky Puppy a real run for their money. Further proof can be seen on YouTube with a video of Vogt's earlier ensemble Humble Organisms playing Pearhofjax," a number included in this album. Taking its cue from the likes of The Brecker Brothers, Stevland" is an irresistible introduction to the The AV Club. The lightning fast ensemble passages on guitarist Anders ...

Bassist Andrew Vogt's engaging EP, the entirely improvised For Free, serves as a teaser for two of his upcoming 2017 recordings. The tracks on For Free are from the same sessions that resulted in the above mentioned The AV Club and Awakening, but they are not included on either of them. The spontaneously created music is not, like many other collective blowing sessions, filled with unbridled energy and dissonance. It is indeed quite accessible with overlapping hypnotic refrains ...
