Angela Turone

Angela Turone is a vocalist and pianist who is quickly establishing herself on the Canadian jazz scene. Born and raised in Toronto, Angela sang in choirs and studied classical piano throughout her childhood. As a teenager, she discovered the music of jazz vocalists such as Shirley Horn, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald. This inspired her to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, where her teachers included Christine Duncan, Terry Promane and Chase Sanborn. Angela was featured on a 2013 recording from the U of T Jazz Orchestra, singing alongside Juno Award-winning Canadian saxophonist Mike Murley on his composition Minas Mist.

Angela has performed at Toronto's top jazz venues including the Jazz Bistro, the Rex Jazz and Blues Bar, and the Home Smith Bar at the Old Mill Toronto. Her voice, described as "warm and lush," can be relished in the Angela Turone & Chris Platt Bossa Duo, performing unique interpretations of music written by Brazil's most esteemed composers and lyricists.

Drift to You, Angela's FACTOR-funded debut EP, showcases her vocals and piano playing, as well as her original compositions. The EP is backed by the Angela Turone Quartet, a stellar line up of Canada's most promising young and upcoming talent.

Angela has performed in the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival, and the Niagara region's 2017 Twilight Jazz Series. In 2014, she was the recipient of the Jazz.FM91 Mary Alice Stuart Scholarship presented at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival in Nathan Phillips Square.
