Anna Bonomolo
Let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in Palermo and grew up with many dreams other than becoming a singer. I graduated from university, worked, married, had a son, and I’ve always loved music. Journalists and music critics have noted her unique voice and called her a black-white singer. She began singing in local clubs in Italy with two groups, performing with Marcello Mandreucci, and eventually winning an audition to sing with the Duke Ellington Singers (directed by Enzo Randisi) at the Massimo Opera House in Palermo. In 1997 she won second place at the Banjo Festival at Benevento, directed by Gegè Telesforo. She then pursued several personal projects: the Palermo Spiritual Ensemble, FolkAge, Dipinti di Blues, Anna Bonomolo, and Jazz in Progress. She collaborated with American singers Charlie Cannon and Kathleen Perry (Palermo Spiritual Ensemble). They were the opening band for Earth, Wind and Fire’s 1997 European Tour at the ancient Greek theater in Taormina. Her group also performed on the TV program RAI UNOMATTINA, and appeared in the inauguration of the 1998 summer concert season at the Massimo Opera House in Palermo, along with the Irish group THE CHIEFTANS. In Verona’s Philharmonic Hall she performed with Jerry Calà in a show for the Italian Red Cross. In 2002 she sang at the TaoArte Festival in Taormina, and in 2004 she appeared on the program of Sacred Music Week at Monreale. Productions: 1) “It Hurts” with Josh Colow (Ti.Pi.Cal) 2) “Go Spirit” (Palermo Spiritual Ensemble) 3) “Nostra signora degli autogrill” (Francesco Baccini) Guest appearance (and author of the text) in the video “Stidda” on the TV show Do Re Ciak Gulp hosted by Vincenzo Mollica on channels TG1 and RAI 1. Also appeared on TV channel RAI 1 in Vincenzo Mollica’s music program TARATATA’ In December 2007, performed on the TV Christmas show with Palermo Spiritual Ensemble on channel RETE4 Guest on the RAI TV chamber music auditorium with Marcello Mandreucci In 2010 Anna performed in the concert MAREVIVO with the group Friends featuring Sarah Jane Morris and Tony Remy In July 2011 she appeared with the FolkAge Band at WOMAD in SICILY August 2011: mini-tour with Sarah Jane Morris and Tony Remy.
