Anne Walsh was raised in Worcester, Massachusetts where a large Brazilian population dwells, and as a child her vivid imagination was initially captured by songs ranging from Broadway productions like The Sound Of Music, and singers like Ella Fitzgerald, to the distinctive jazz-pop stylings of Brazil '66. She studied music extensively, eventually earning a Master’s degree in music after moving West. Walsh performed in clubs, light operas and musicals, all of which helped shape her unique musical identity. She has performed at clubs and concert venues throughout California including The Carpenter Center, McKinney Theater, The Jazz Bakery, Spaghettini, and Spazio. Now residing in Long Beach, she’s on staff teaching at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in Hollywood.
Urban Network: “With her latest release, Pretty World, she (Walsh) has padded
pure and barefoot into a spellbinding universe of impeccably selected songs
from the realms of Brazilian-kissed jazz. The result is the most impressive
contemporary approach to balancing compositions deserving of wider
recognition with standards as has been rendered in many a velvet moon.
Most outstanding are three originally instrumental songs that were lyricized
by Joe DeRenzo…Each song is impeccably arranged…This is simply the most
refreshing contemporary jazz vocal album of the year.”
Smooth Jazz Therapy: “…Anne Walsh has sublimely captured the concept of
this planet of ours as a beautiful place to be
