On this album you can hear examples from just about the full range of my composing and improvising approaches. At the Tavern of Fine Arts, here in St. Louis, we claimed regular once a month sessions, where the style was usually free improv. The cuts "Free" and "Scherzo" are good examples of that, and we kept the ambience lively by allowing new players to sit in from one piece to another. The remaining works on "Another Place" demonstrate my various approaches to jazz/classical composition, from multi-sectional works, such as the title piece and "Three Times Three", to works with a more continuous flow, such as "Ode On A Grecian Urn". Usually, the instrumental parts are notated, and the drums improvise (we’ve got some great ones here in St. Louis!)
