Benjamin Koppel’s work as a professional musician has a primary focus on jazz music, but he is also very active within different other genres � from jazz to crossover to classical music. He is always experimenting with and developing his music. As a musician he is working with a number of different ensembles, many different musicians and with different kinds of music and is working in both national and international settings.
Benjamin Koppel began his musical career in his teenage years and he was releasing his debut album when he was 18. Since then he has established a number of ensembles with whom he is performing regularly as a bandleader. The different ensembles have a very unique style and sound and are all contributing to his musical creativity as a saxophone player and as a composer.
The ensembles that he has established and is performing with in Denmark are among others: The classical-rhythmical ensemble Mad Cows Sing, the jazz quintet Benjamin Koppel Quintet, the jazz-world-classical inspired trio Koppel-Andersen-Koppel, the Nordic jazz project Nordic Design and with the pop-jazz singer Alberte Winding and the soul singer Marie Carmen Koppel.
During the last years he has been focusing on his international career as a jazz musician, and he is therefore working with a number of internationally highly regarded jazz musicians. He is working with musicians such as the Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez, the Danish drummer Alex Riel, the French drummer Daniel Humair, the Swedish bass player Palle Danielsson, the American saxophone player Phil Woods, the American Hammond organ player Larry Goldings, the American drummer Bill Stewart and the American piano player Paul Bley.
