Betty Davis

Betty Davis was an American singer, songwriter, and model. She was known for her controversial sexually-oriented lyrics and performance style, and for being the second wife of trumpeter Miles Davis. Her Allmusic profile describes her as "a wildly flamboyant funk diva with few equals ... [who] combined the gritty emotional realism of Tina Turner, the futurist fashion sense of David Bowie, and the trendsetting flair of Miles Davis".

The vaults of major labels such as Columbia and many others hold many secret and yet to be revealed gems. First of all, check out singer-songwriter Bob Dylan's archival Bootleg output series or trumpet legend Miles Davis archival box set reissues. This isn't just scraping the bottom of a barrel and coming out with alternate takes or rehearsals of songs or music with dubious audio quality, but an avalanche of unbelievable amount of great music, much to the joy of ...

Betty Davis: Betty Davis

She was the beginning of all that when she was singing as Betty Davis." —Miles Davis with Quincy Troupe, Miles: The Autobiography. The former wife of Miles, Betty Mabry Davis is perhaps the only woman in the world who could rightfully have the following legend tattooed across her rear: THIS ASS INVENTED FUSION. Among '70s Funk aficionados, Betty Davis is something of a Fakahatchee Orchid: truly rare, exquisite, and without peer. That so little has been known about her for so long only adds to the mystique of this former wife of Miles Davis, who produced a series of albums so radical and, indescribable that they still have the power to tingle today, some thirty years hence. Sly Stone? Tina Turner? Funkadelic? Chaka Khan? Rick James? ...
