Album Description

"Blue Verdun" is the sophomore album of Quinn Bachand's Brishen. Quinn is a young musician from the west coast of Canada, versed in many musical styles and instruments. "Brishen" is an inspired outlet for his passion of western swing and European jazz as well as early pop music. On this record he brings together some of his favorite musicians to play his original compositions. INTRODUCTION TO THE ABLUM BY MATT GLASER Welcome to the visionary musical world of Quinn Bachand. I was flabbergasted when I put on this recording for the first time, and you will be too, as you take a journey into the wild imagination of Quinn - a musical world that includes strands of various epochs of pop music, film music, gypsy jazz, western swing, instrumental virtuosity on guitar and violin, storytelling, songs, amazing arrangements, and a dance band sensibility that almost sounds like it came from another planet! As with any great music whose whole is greater than its parts, it is really hard to put into words the various strands that you will hear, but they are all brought together beautifully, in a very compelling and emotionally grounded listening experience. Whatever your taste in music, you will find many threads to follow, but those threads will draw you into a greater picture, telling stories, and entering into a psychedelic, kaleidoscopic musical world that you've never heard before. I was really thunderstruck, and you will be too, because very rarely does a young person make an album that is technically virtuosic, but also shows an amazing sense of history, and an awareness of a great range of music. Quinn is able to combine these things together in an utterly new and compelling way, without doing any disservice to these previous strands. So sit back, enjoy and let this amazing music wash over you. -MATT GLASER
