Album Description

See Through 4 is a moniker for a rotating cast of Toronto-based musicians that play tunes by bassist Pete Johnston. On this outing Johnston is joined by Rebecca Hennessy on trumpet, Karen Ng on saxophone, and Jake Oelrichs on drums. "Bog Standards" is the first album of a jazz trilogy by See Through 4. The tunes here are re-imaginings of songs from Pete Johnston's See Through Music back catalog, made with a new combination of veterans from previous See Through projects. The influences of Jimmy Giuffre, Carla Bley, and Ornette Coleman shine through these performances, but more important is the entirely more local chemistry between the players, who have played together across many different ensembles in Toronto over the years.

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
