Album Description

Comprised of some of the midwest's top young jazz musicians, Andrew Janak and Wind Armada is one of the most exciting bands currently on the scene today. The group played for a year and a half each Monday at Phyllis’ Musical Inn in Chicago, IL as the house band for a weekly jam session. Armed with a repertoire of original compositions by saxophonist Andrew Janak, Wind Armada performs modern jazz with a sensitive, melodic edge with undertones of muscular Chicago swing. This recording was a long time in the making, as leader Andrew Janak moved to Lincoln, NE in 2015 to pursue a doctorate in jazz studies/composition after living in Chicago for three years. Janak wrote an album's worth of music for his first doctoral recital and brought his entire Chicago band to Lincoln to perform and record in February 2016. The band spent an intensive weekend rehearsing, recording, and performing and the results are showcased on this recording.
