Jazz trumpeter Brian Swartz is a diverse musician with a wide range of influences. He has performed or recorded with Michael Bublé, The Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Patti Labelle, The Dixie Chicks, Johnny Vatos' Oingo Boingo Former Members, Tom Harrell, Brad Mehldau, John Beasley’s Monk’estra, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Kim Richmond’s Concert Jazz Orchestra, Taylor Eigsti, Raya Yarbrough, The O’Jays, Bob Florence, Scott Healy’s Tentet, The Luckman Jazz Orchestra, Francisco Aguabella, Jose Rizo’s Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars and many more. He is a founding member of the Los Angeles Jazz Collective, an organization formed to promote original jazz in Los Angeles and abroad.
Brian Swartz has released 5 CD’s as a leader. To Be With You (DistroKid 2020), “Portraiture” (Summit Records 2014), “Three” (Summit Records 2006), “Live at the Jazz Bakery” (Summit Records 2005) and “There’s Only Me” (Noir Records 2000). He has led groups in the Los Angeles area since 1996, including his Gnu Sextet and his big band, The Swartztestra. Whether as a powerful section player or as a nimble and inventive soloist, Brian Swartz has established himself as one of the most influential trumpeters on the West Coast. His skills as an adventurous arranger have led to commissions from professional big bands and colleges, as well as the position of staff arranger for the Luckman Jazz Orchestra, John Beasley’s Monk’estra and the ABC TV show, “Duets.”
