Carlos Salazar

Carlos, A man who devotes himself entirely to his music and Afro-Cuban roots. A man known for his humbleness and musical discipline. Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Carlos discovered his love and passion for percussion at a very young age. It wasn't long before his curiousity led him to great opportunities. Carlos studied music at the National School of the Arts (ENA) in Havana, Cuba and learned the basics and principles of percussion while at the same time acquiring an additional degree in electronics. His love then shifted to conga drumming, a key instrument in the Afro-Cuban scene, mainly seen or heard in the streets of Cuban neighborhoods. Carlos then learned the discipline of the musical language and rythym of percussion through African teachers, "teachers of the streets" which are considered the fathers of Latin percussion. Carlos's musical style consists of a contemporary jazz flavor, making music interesting to play and always appropriate for all situations. Carlos has toured with many bands over the U.S. after leaving Cuba in 1980. Cities such as Las Vegas, Seattle, Nashville, Toronto, Barranquilla, Manhattan, and many others are familiar with Carlos and his musical talents. Carlos, active within the musical scene in South Florida, spends his days content with the valued fact that he still has two hands to make music with.
