Carter Fox

Bassist and producer Carter Fox began his musical journey in the suburbs of Philadelphia learning classical upright bass at the age of 9. His yearning to express his creativity continued to expand as he learned to play many orchestral, wind, and brass instruments throughout his youth, focusing mainly on bass and trombone. His leap to the world beyond classical music started in 2006, when he began to perform with numerous jazz groups and musicians around Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware at the age of 15. Under the mentorship of world-renown bassist Gerald Veasley and notable session bassist and arranger Kjell Benner, Carter honed his performance and songwriting chops, performing hundreds of shows and playing with numerous bands before releasing his own self-produced LP “Suburbia” in spring 2009 at the age of 18. Bringing him notoriety and respect from the jazz and blues, as well as alternative, experimental, and rock communities on the east coast, Carter continued his journey by moving to Philadelphia to attend prestigious Drexel University. During this time, he co-founded the record label ToFo Records with roommate Dan Toll and friend Ryan Hall, whose releases include Kevin James Devine’s “Through the Fields”, D & M’s “First EP”, and the Water Ice Boyz’ (the songwriting duo of Toll and Fox) “Perfect Story”. The last release would be Carter’s own 2010 release “Pride”, a combination of jazz, rock, and experimental influences featuring a cover of the Beatles’ “Let it Be,” which was picked up by international smooth jazz radio stations and featured on SmoothJazz.com.

Following a performing hiatus in 2010 to focus on academics and producing, Carter recorded and performed with the group Jades of Blue, who would open for B.o.B. and Major Lazer in spring 2011. He moved to the Bed-Sty neighborhood of Brooklyn for the summer of 2011 while interning with independent music publishing powerhouse Reservoir Media Management in New York City. During this time, he honed his electronic production skills and continued to write new music. In 2012, Carter joined the talented line-up of Platinum Mustache, the soul-rock band with the message of spreading love, forgiving hate, and making (and subsequently forgetting) mistakes. The group quickly signed with indie label Flexitone Records and is working with GRAMMY-nominated producer and engineer David Ivory (Halestorm, the Roots, Patti Labelle). The group released a 3-song EP (featuring the songs "Situations," "Give Me a Reason", and "Empty") and toured the northeast United States. The songs received major airplay and international airplay, as well as some licensing features.
