Cecil Myers

Cecil Myers is the Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts where his teaching duties include Jazz 1 and Music Theory. A native of Tucson, Arizona, he earned his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While at UNLV, he studied woodwinds under Felix Viscuglia, conducting under Takayoshi “Tad” Suzuki, and Jazz under Frank Gagliardi, Rocky Winslow, and Stefan Karlsson. Cecil has been teaching in the Clark County School District for over seventeen years. His jazz programs have performed all over the world including performances in Rome, Edinburgh, and the prestigious Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. His bands have performed with top jazz artists including Avishai Cohen, Bobby Sanabria, Rob Derke, the New York Jazz Initiative, and NMEA Jazz Master Candido Camero. He has held positions as the President of the International Association for Jazz Education Nevada Chapter (NVJazz), the Nevada Music Educators Association All-State Jazz Band Chair, and the Clark County School District Honor Jazz Band Chair. He has served as a guest clinician with several school honor groups such as Northern Arizona University Jazz Camp. Cecil is a freelance woodwind player, has performed in musical productions of West Side Story , Mary Poppins, and Aint’ Misbehavin’; and has worked with artists such as Jerry Vale, the Four Freshmen, Stan Mark, and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.
