Charlie Tresca

Charlie began playing clarinet at 8 years old, and guitar at age 10. He started playing jazz guitar at age 18. Charlie believes that music study is a life-long pursuit and that music education provides the seeds for developing instrumental skills and creativity. The individual musician and his/her outside musical influences determine the overall artist's contribution. He was blessed to have Billie Holiday's former pianist, Carlton Drinkard, as a mentor in college while becoming a member of the college's jazz workshop. Carlton introduced him to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and I was asked to sit in at their performance at Stockton State College, Pomona, New Jersey back in 1977. Charlie's previous group was one he founded in 2011 called "Wine Country Jazz". His group performed at many California wineries. In late 2013, he met world acclaimed jazz guitarist, John Stowell, and has been playing gigs with John since then. In November of 2021, John and Charlie hooked up with acclaimed jazz guitarist and teacher, Pat Kelley, for a gig on California's central coast. In February 2022, Charlie met LA acclaimed jazz guitarist, Matt Aschkynazo. Charlie, Matt, and John performed at a gig together. Charlie continues to practice, learn, and promote jazz. He is the creator of the FaceBook page "JAZZ" and the membership has grown to over 20,000 members. Charlie was friends with jazz guitar icons, Larry Coryell and Pat Martino.
