Christopher Massey

Chris Massey, melodic jazz/groove drummer, originally from Buffalo; NY, attended the Berklee College of Music in the late 1970's and studied with jazz great Joe Hunt. He has since been a resident of New York City, London, England, Austin, Texas; Bloomington, IN; and currently Switzerland.

Able to place his particular sound within the jazz world as well as the grooves of R&B, funk, hip-hop, Soul and dance-jazz...he has performed and recorded with a great number of cutting edge artists (especially guitar players)in the US and Europe such as: Steve Swallow, Bill Frisell, David Torn, Robert Creeley, Raoul Björkenheim, Tom Varner, David Grissom, Christy Doran, Simon Picard, Mike Gibbs, John Mills, Chris Duarte, Michael Leasure, Brian Gephart, John Wolf Brennan, Jimmy LaFave, and Marc Levinthal.

His most important influences have been composers Bela Bartok and Igor Stravinsky, drummers Paul Motian, Jack DeJohnette, Steve Jordan and guitarists Terje Rypdal and Bill Frisell.
