Christoph Grab, born in 1967, saxophone player, composer

Christoph Grab's musical education started out with seven years of classical saxophone lessons before attending the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, graduating in saxophone, composition and arrangement. Among his teachers and mentors are Andy Scherrer, Sal Nistico, Jerry Bergonzi, Joe Lovano and Dave Liebman. In 1992 he won the scholarship for young soloists offered by the Friedel Wald Foundation in Basel in a national contest.

Scores of recordings for radio and television broadcasts have followed since, as well as countless tours and concerts in Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Russia, Lithuania, Egypt and Turkey. Among those numerous musicians and bands he has been playing with are well-known names like Ray Anderson, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Irene Schweizer, Joe Beck, Mark Egan, Danny Gottlieb, Burhan Oecal, Nils Wogram, Harald Haerter and many others.

At present, Grab leads his own jazz band (”The Christoph Grab Quartet”); they have released two highly praised albums: “personal” (UTR4156) and “CRYPTIC BLUES”(UTR4166” with trombonist Nils Wogram. Besides various freelance jobs on the Swiss jazz scene he works with groups like the Zurich Jazz Orchestra, NEUROMODULATOR, Nadelöhr, Kurt Weil & Vibes Revisited, Elmar Frei Sextett, ContempArabic Jazz Ensemble, BeeStreet, Flisch's News etc.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
