Cowboys from Hell Cowboys from Hell

”This music that is always able to scare your grandmother, but also tells stories that are worth being told.” Rolf Thomas, Jazzthetik DE

This fall the Switzerland based band Cowboys from Hell present their third album “Running Man”. The Cowboys show much more variety in their music than their name may suggest. They create a musical hurricane out of funk-grooves, then rock riffs or electronics. You are reminded of Frank Zappa and Rage Against The Machine – you recognize influences of Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin and hear quotes from Jazz and Pop – or you might even think of movie soundtracks.

Over the years the trio has gone through a surprisingly multi-faceted development. Although still powerful, their music is much more subtle, fine and sustainable and both the songs and the interplay are much more compact and authentic. The result is fresh music with strong vitality and energy.

The Cowboys from Hell were founded in 2005 with three musicians from different music scenes in Switzerland. Chrigel Bosshard and Marco Blöchlinger have been important members of pop groups such as Lunik, Marc Sway, Steffe La Cheffe or Myron for years. Christoph Irniger is on the road worldwide with his Jazz-trio and Pilgrim.

”this is music with wall-cracking energy” Stereogum / The Hollywood Reporter „Die Musik der Cowboys ist auf einem hohen Energielevel, immer noch wild, immer noch Adrenalin-getrieben“ Aargauer Zeitung „Eine gelungene Mischung, getragen von brachialer Energie und ungezügelter Spielfreude“ Jazzpodium „Mächtige Sound-Druckwellen schlagen einem entgegen, die eruptive Musik reisst mit und lässt zwischendurch auch traumartige psychedelische Passagen zu“ NZZ am Sonntag

All About Jazz needs your support

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
