Dan Fox
Along with multi-instrumentalist Crick Diefendorf, Fox is a co-leader of all the Made in the Shade Music groups. Performances on trombone include traditional and straight ahead jazz concerts with Herb Pomeroy, New Black Eagle Jazz Band, Eli Newberger, Gene Krupa Orchestra, Cab Calloway Orchestra, Lou Colombo/ Dick Johnson Group, and more modern jazz with Ben Monder, John Tchicai, Matthew Garrison, Greg Hopkins 16 Piece, Fully Celebrated Orchestra, and The Either/Orchestra. Fox has also played in big bands backing jazz legends Louis Bellson, Paquito D'Rivera, Joe Lovano, and Clark Terry. On bass, Dan freelances with singer/songwriters and world music acts in the Boston area. He has backed bands such as The Cadillacs, The Chantels, Frankie Ford, and Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame groups, The Drifters and The Tokens.
As a jazz educator Fox has led workshops in improvisation and taught ensembles with the Traveling School at the Gezmetaz Festival in Genoa, Italy. He has also given clinics at Berklee College of Music, Cleveland State University, Interlochen School for the Arts, University of Iowa, and Lawrence University. Fox currently teaches private students out of his home as well as at Lexington High School. He also teaches privately and directs the jazz band at St. Mark's High School in Southboro, MA.
In conjunction with Young Audiences of Massachusetts, Fox and Diefendorf offer educational performances, workshops, and residencies for schools, after school programs, and summer camps. Click here for more information. In 2007 Fox founded the Morningside Music Studio.
