Album Description

I've known Daniel Carter since 1999 when I first saw Test playing live at St.Marks record store. Who was that playing saxophone and trumpet? Later at the Pink Pony on Ludlow, he spontaneously joined me and my friend Zak Sherzad for our first musical meeting. We made 2 duo records after this, the second one live at Tower Records. Fast forward to 2020 and DC and I have played together many, many times. Never more than now in 2020 outside at the Astor Place Subway stop in NYC. In 2019, we started something different, having sessions where I played all piano while he played through his family. (As he told me the alto is the benediction) We performed as a duo with this format twice, the second time being heard here. I'm by no means trying to come out as a pianist. I worked on the music here with the goal of only supporting Daniel, as I thought he would be able to vibe with what I do when I do play piano. The end result is a very unique album for both Daniel and myself, and what ended up to be a very dynamic chamber of sorts. Listen in on the conversation we have been having about so many things, for 20 years and counting Special thanks to Eli Hershiser, who def showed me some things on piano Peace ML credits released September 9, 2020 Daniel Carter: flute. clarinet, soprano sax, clarinert, alto and tenor sax Matt Lavelle: Piano Recorded live by Rene Pierre Allain at Scholes St. Studio on September 17th, 2019 Album Art: Heart Sounds by Matt Lavelle license all rights reserved

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded albums and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, limited reopenings and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary step that will help musicians and venues now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the sticky footer ad). Thank you!
