Album Description

Recorded live at Kenny Dorham's Backyard in Austin Texas for the Jazz OUTside series on March 27, 2019 This album was recorded outdoors on a hand held field recorder using the recorder's built in microphones. Originally intended only for reference but it was such a fun performance we thought we should release it for others to enjoy. That said, there may be some wind noise, a bit of hiss and what not. During mastering many engineers often increase the low frequencies and volume to hard rock or hip hop levels even in many jazz recordings. We have nothing against these genres but we feel this technique during mastering is unnecessary for music that originates from acoustic instruments no matter how they are processed through the sound system during performance. This way the listener can enjoy the dynamics of the performance.

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
