Denise Kidder

Vocalist Denise Kidder is known for her gorgeous tone, intelligent, soulful lyrics and musical sophistication. She has been described as a having a "great ear" and a clear, horn-like sound. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she studied classical piano as a child for several years under the tutelage of her piano teacher mother and New York pianist Vladimir Pleshakov. She brings a high level of musicianship to her performances.

Her jazz training includes study at the California Jazz Conservatory, private study with master vocal teacher Jane Sharp, and study/performance with Molly Holm and the Impermanent Ensemble, an a capella jazz vocal group, and coursework with Roger Letson at Contra Costa College and in Paris.

She draws her repertoire from an eclectic array of lesser-known jazz standards, Brazilian grooves, as well as modern composers such as Herbie Hancock, Chico Pinheiro and Chris McNulty. Her musical influences include Carmen McRae, Anita O'Day, Irene Kral and Blossom Dearie. She dabbles in songwriting and is planning a recording project. https://DeniseKidder.com
