Dick Maley

Drummer/vocalist Dick “Spanky” Maley was born in Washington, DC.

Dick attended Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music in Winchester, VA. At the age of 22 he moved to New Orleans where he performed in night clubs on Bourbon Street with the “New Dixie Zing Kings” Dixieland show band.

1980 saw a move to Clearwater, FL where he started honing his jazz skills under the tutelage of jazz artists such as Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, Bill Allred, Tom Saunders, Chuck Hedges, Henry Cuesta, Bob Draga, Mike Vax, Bob Havens, Johnnie Varro and Ms. Connie Haines, to name a few.

“Spanky” currently resides in Lakeland, FL near Orlando where he performs for the Walt Disney Company, as well as playing in many local jazz festivals. You can hear Dick performing with Wally’s Warehouse Waifs at many of the traditional jazz festivals across the USA and abroad. Dick also lead his 18-piece big band, The Dick Maley Jazz Orchestra,” in the Central FL region. He currently hosts the New Year’s Eve Gala at Safety Harbor Resort & Spa in Safety Harbor, FL.
