Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, Dimitris began to study classical music at the age of 6 where he ended up earning four degrees in Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and a diploma in classical percussion. Since jazz music has always been his passion (his father is well known Greek jazz trumpeter and arranger) he discovered www.vibesworkshop.com where he did online lessons and workshops with top jazz vibraphonists like Tony Miceli and David Friedman. A meeting with New York–based vibraphonist Christos Rafalides was also critical in Dimitris’ development. After being awarded a Fulbright scholarship, he moved to the United States to study with Tony Miceli and Don Glanden at the University of the Arts and privately with Christos Rafalides, along with other artists like Ed Saindon, Joe Locke and Kenny Werner.
Dimitris has performed in with Giorgos Kontrafouris, Yiotis Samaras, Vasilis Xenopoulos, Dimitris Kalatzis, Antonis Andreou, Dimitris Tsakas, Takis Paterelis, Giannis Papatriantafylou, Giannis Oikonomidis, Makis Stefanides, Kostas Konstantinou, Giannis -Souidos- Pavlidis, Paris Strother (Prince) to name a few, in several events and festivals and he had the chance to share the stage with world class musicians like vibraphonist Mulate Astake. He has also performed in Europe (England, Spain, Holland, Ukraine and Germany) and in USA (Philadelphia, Delaware). In 2012 he worked as a performer and organizer with the steel drum band, Delaware Steel from the University of Delaware, led by Harvey Price, at the ISME Conference in Thessaloniki, Greece. He has also recorded with Byron Landham (drummer of Joy Defrancesco’s trio) a tune by pianist Joshua Richman, for the Herb Alpert Young Composers Competition.
