Afonso Abreu

Afonso Abreu is a very particular musician from Brazil. Playing the bass,composing or producing, always shows his best and does what it has to be done and a lot more. On the road since the hard military brazilian sixties, with the repression and censorship, the "Mamiferos" worked hard to let the music free. Now, 40 years later, jazz and brazilian music are quite the same language and Afonso dives into that universe with all his might, with his faithfull friend Marco Antonio Grijo on Drums and a new aquisition to make things a little fresher, the piano of Pedro de Alcantara.

Massimo Sammi: First Day

Massimo Sammi's debut draws inspiration from the 2001 motion picture A Beautiful Mind, based on the life of mathematician John Nash. The album's theme is implemented, as the guitarist describes in his liner notes, by Sammi's “musical storyboarding of the film," based on Nash's experiences and theories. While the music's background, which includes free jazz improvisation, is intellectually stimulating, it's thankfully not as complex as Nash's equations in differential geometry.
