Aili Ikonen & Tribute to Ella

Aili Ikonen & Tribute to Ella pays homage to one of the greatest vocal stylists and improvisers of all times, Ella Fitzgerald, and to the music she loved.

The debut album ”Aili Ikonen & Tribute to Ella” is the first finnish album focusing on the music of ”The First Lady of Jazz”. The album released in april 2013 has received great reviews.

The sextet has gained reputation with their sublime performances all over Finland, with the amazing Aili Ikonen as the vocalist. Ikonen has been said to be one of the few true scat-improvisers in Finland, following the footsteps of Ella.

Bassist and bandleader Mikko Pellinen´s fresh arrangements, played by some of the top young finnish jazz musicians, gives the evergreen tunes an exiting twist. The repertoire including romantic ballads, bebob-tunes and warm latin rhythms swing smoothly while trumpet and saxophone give a special boost to the hard-swinging rhythm section.
