Andrew Hoglund

Born in Portland, Oregon, Andrew started playing piano at the age of five. At the age of 12 his musical talents were recognized by the leadership at his church and he was encouraged to play trumpet in the church band. After many musical recognitions and an opportunity to perform with Mercer Ellington in high school he went on to attend the University of Oregon to study Trumpet Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies . He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 2001 and was awarded outstanding Jazz Soloist at the Reno Jazz Festival during his time there. After graduating, Andrew embarked on his career as a freelance musician and composer. During that time he lead and recorded a jazz quintet, played in salsa bands, traveled the world playing on a cruise ship, and played in the worship team at his local church. In 2003 Andrew attended the Banff Jazz Workshop where he was able to study play with Esperanza Spaulding, Alan Hampton, and study with Dave Douglas, Chris Potter, Jim Black, Django Bates and many others. In 2003 Andrew decided to move to New York City to continue a career of performing and recording music. Soon after arriving in New York City he became involved with the School for Improvisational Music and was able to study with Ralph Alessi, Ravi Coltrane, Time Berne, Vijay Iyer, Jason Moran, and many others. It was during this time that he also started attending Times Square Church and playing in the weekly worship services. Since 2006 Andrew has dedicated himself to serving at Times Square Church in the music ministry as the trumpet player for the regular weekly services. For the past 4 years Andrew has been leading the horn section, writing arrangements for choir specials and recording on various records released by TSC Music.
