Ben Gallina
My name is Ben Gallina. I write music and play upright bass, electric bass, mandolin, tenor banjo, piano and guitar.
Against all logic, I've been playing music in New York City since 2004, with no signs of stopping. You can hear me play bass regularly with Matt Kanelos and the Smooth Maria, HappyFunSmile, FACE, Slow to Wake, Danny Sher's Idiosyncrasies, Big Swifty, and my own group: SALO.
As a free-lancer I've toured the US with honeyhoney opening for Lifehouse, performed with jazz/soul singer Dean Bowman, saxophonist Jeff Lederer, and several orchestras including the Rochester Philharmonic Pops, Astoria Symphony, New Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, and New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble.
I give private music instruction on bass and composition and hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Bass Performance from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, NY. My teachers have included Fred Stone, the late Dennis Monroe, Ralph Ortiz, and the fine teachers of Eastman including Jeff Campbell, Harold Danko, Bill Dobbins, and Clay Jenkins.
I hope you enjoy the recordings, and if you'd like to play, just give me a call at (631) 338-2307 or send an email to [email protected]!
Thanks!
