Bogdanovic

Described as a composer of masterful craft with a genuine clarity and purity of vision (Guitar Review, 2002), Dusan Bogdanovic has developed a personal synthesis of contemporary classical, jazz and ethnic music. As a soloist and in collaboration with various artists, Dusan has toured extensively throughout Europe, United States and Japan. Early in his career, he received the only First Prize at the Geneva Competition and gave a highly acclaimed debut recital at Carnegie Hall in 1977.

Dusan’s has written music for solo guitar, various types of chamber ensembles, orchestra, as well as multimedia and dance. He has over one hundred published compositions as well as close to twenty CD recordings. His most notable works include ballet Crow, premiered by the Pacific Dance Company at the Los Angeles Theater Center, Kaleidoscope Concerto, premiered by William Kanengiser at the Montreal GFA Festival, Sevdalinka, written for the Newman- Oltman Guitar Duo with the Turtle Island Quartet, premiered at Merkin Hall, New York and many others.

His theoretical work includes Polyrhythmic and Polymetric Studies, a bilingual publication Counterpoint for Guitar at Berben Editions, and Ex Ovo, A Guide for Perplexed Composers and Improvisers published by Editions Doberman. After having taught at the Belgrade Academy and at the San Francisco Conservatory, he is presently teaching at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneva, Switzerland.
